28/04/2021: Coastal introduction (page 1).
The first image is the original rough sketch for (double)page 1 however after discussing with my tutor, we came to the conclusion that it wasn't quite right. The problem was that I had not paid close enough attention to the proportions in my original thumbnail sketch so it was really different and didn't work so well.
Over the Easter break, I re worked all of the roughs where I hadn't paid enough attention to the thumbnails. I made sure to use maths to scale everything up at the right ratio to the size of the rough. Doing this made a rough which was more accurate to the thumbnail and looked a lot better as an image. This is something that I will always take the time to do in the future.
Below is an example of some of the collage work produced for this page of the book along with some visual research into the types of coastal flowers I would be collaging. For reference, the collage has been done on an A4 piece of paper. I scanned in this along with the background textures and digitally collaged them all together on Photoshop to make the image. I found that this way of working is very efficient in that I can quickly alter things digitally if they need changing. I continued to use this method of image making throughout the rest of the book.
Below is the final version of the image. This will form the first double page spread of my book and introduce the coastal habitat section. Overall I am really happy with the outcome. I had to re work the foliage at the bottom a couple of times to ensure the best quality. I am also really pleased with my colour pallet witch was also slightly altered on photoshop a few times to get the desired aesthetic.
