13/01/2021: Block 3 tutorial notes.
During the first chat of the new unit, I decided to write down some notes from my conversation with Ian. I am writing them up here to I have something clear to refer to when working towards the goals I want to achieve throughout block 3.
I feel like the work I produced during block 2 is starting go in the right direction, right now it just feels a bit fragmented. My main goal this unit is to pull everything together and take a more holistic approach to my work.
I am going to continue with the location drawing as the main purpose of my authorship project is to capture the wildlife around me. I want to continue to take a naturalists approach to my sketchbooks and note taking as wildlife is my greatest interest in life and I want to eventually teach people about my findings.
I am also going to continue developing my research into works of art, focussing on mixed media as my main medium so I can combine my interest in craft with my illustrations. I want to continue to work with the idea of drawing with the scalpel as this has been one of my strong points in previous projects.
Going forward I would like to focus more on the bigger picture and apply my work to the wider remit of the subject area. this means thinking about how I can apply my work to briefs that I set myself so that I am not just left with an illustration on a piece of paper.
I want to take a more critical approach to reflecting on my work and take the time to go back and rectify aspects of my work that hasn't worked. Over the course of block 2, I feel that the blog has allowed me to do this more effectively than in previous projects however I want to remind myself about the wider remit and give some more context to the work I produce.
I also want to work on slowing down and taking the time to perfect the things I create rather that rushing to complete something every day and just pumping out work that isn't to the best of my ability. In that respect, the blog is sometimes not as useful as I can often feel pressure to be constantly updating it daily with new work.
Overall I am looking forward to creating new and inspiring outcomes over block 3 that fulfils my original learning agreement to the bets of my ability under the current circumstances of remote learning and lack of access to the art school.
